Vanaver Caravan celebrates its 50th anniversary with The Hudson Valley Beltane Festival
May 21, 2022 @ 12:00 am
The Vanaver Caravan celebrates its 50th anniversary this year with a series of events that highlight the best aspects of their impactful work; both past and present. For half a century, The Vanaver Caravan Dance & Music Company has been an integral part of the Hudson Valley community; promoting peace, celebrating our shared humanity and transforming young lives through the magic of music and dance.
They are a 501-C nonprofit organization whose Company of dancers and musicians perform original, world-infused choreography and music, both locally and internationally. At the heart of their programming is their cross-cultural arts-education programs, which have served 45,000 students in 350 schools. Their dance institute welcomes children, teens and adults to join year-round classes, workshops and family-oriented performances throughout the region. Wherever The Vanaver Caravan goes, dance and music follows; inspiring people in every walk of life to join together in song and dance.
Join founders, Livia and Bill Vanaver, and the Caravan community as they reflect on their legacy and imagine a bright future — handing the leadership torch to the next generation and building a home dance center in the Hudson Valley.
50th anniversary year events and workshops include:
The Hudson Valley Beltane Festival: Saturday, May 21 (rain date Sunday, May 22) Stone Mountain Farm, New Paltz. A performance of myth, magic and puppetry which fuses the whimsy of a Renaissance fair with the delights of a springtime picnic gala.
SUMMER•FEST: Saturday, August 6, Stone Mountain Farm, New Paltz. Summer•Fest will raise awareness for the mental health of children, teens and young adults. Join some of the Hudson Valley’s best dance and music companies for an all-day festival of performances, free dance workshops, live music, food, circus skills and art. This festival is co-produced by The Vanaver Caravan’s Youth Company & CaravanKids with Stone Mountain Farm, the Hudson Valley Flamenco Festiva, and other organizations.
Tales from the Caravan: A Gala Dinner: Saturday, October 22, Towne Crier Cafe, 396 Main Street, Beacon. Join generations of The Vanaver Caravan community as we gather for food, drink, music and dancing merriment. Look back on songs and dances, highlights, wiles, misadventures and friendships that have brought The Vanaver Caravan to life for half a century.
Into the Light: Holiday Extravaganza: Saturday, December 10, Rosendale Theatre. The Vanaver Caravan & Arm-of-the-Sea Theatre’s annual holiday tale about a girl’s journey to discover how people all over the world bring light and hope to the darkest time of year. Giant puppets, dancing skeletons and holiday cheer.
