Sam’s Point Gallery Spotlight – “Lichens of the Shawangunk Mountains”

April 1, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 4:30 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 9:00 am on Sunday, Thursday and Saturday, repeating indefinitely

Come see the lichen display designed by John Franklin, lichen photographer and Department of Environmental Conservation Steward, at our new exhibit at the Sam’s Point Visitors Center. Lichens are the intrepid little organisms that we see everywhere we look. They grow on the rocks and trees around us, and often underfoot, as we walk the many trails in the Park Preserve. View John’s collection of close-up, macro photographs and see actual samples of some of the and colorful lichens that are found throughout Minnewaska State Park Preserve. This photo exhibit will give you a first-hand look at the complexity of these simple, and often colorful, organisms. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to learn about Shawangunk lichens. Pre-registration is NOT required. Sam’s Point Visitor Centers are open every day, including weekends and holidays, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
