Michael Alexander, author of Jazz Age Jews, is the third speaker in Resnick Institute Lecture Series

The Resnick Institute Lecture Series at SUNY New Paltz continues with Michael Alexander, the author of Jazz Age Jews. This is the third speaker in the series: “Jewish Biography, Saints and Sinners” on Wednesday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m. on Zoom.
Alexander’s topic will be, “The 1919 ‘Black Sox’ Scandal and the Jews: Arnold Rothstein and the Birth of the American Gambling System.” He holds the Maimonides Endowed Chair in Jewish Studies in the religious studies department of the University of California, Riverside. His widely acclaimed book, Jazz Age Jews won the National Jewish Book Award in 2002 in the Jewish-Christian Relations category. Alexander has published a dozen articles in major journals including essays about Felix Frankfurter and the Case of Sacco and Vanzetti, exile and alienation and the meaning of American Jewish History.
