Memorial Day Weekend Activities At Big Rock Cemetery For Children, Families & Adults
May 24 @ 11:00 am
This year, while social distancing is limiting interactions, TBJ Cemetery Committee and Religious School are teaming up to invite all to come for meaningful cemetery and memorial projects! Temple Beth Jacob owns and operates two Jewish cemeteries, and has a share in another local cemetery, and each is a treasure of our Jewish community, with beauty, history and family lore. Spring is time to take care of our precious cemeteries! Please let us know if you will be attending so we have enough snacks for everyone. Beginning 11am with a Cemetery Clean-up – for everyone! Meet at Big Rock Cemetery, Newburgh NY (parking available on Underhill Place and Carter Street). Everyone can socially-distance meet for a cemetery clean-up, including cleaning stones, tidying-up the grounds. Everyone is encouraged to bring work gloves, a bucket, heavy sponge, hat with visor to block the sun and a facial mask.
Followed by a Teaching Scavenger Hunt – for Children and Adults of all ages at 11:30am.
Meaningful search of the grounds – while spread-out – to discover unique symbols and messages and stories engraved in our monuments, and learn a bit about our community’s history!
At 12pm Place Flags at the stones of veterans, and prepare Big Rock Cemetery to look patriotic to honor those who have served our nation. Then – snacks for all – with appropriate distancing! Hosted by Temple Beth Jacob.
