Girls Write Kingston Is Open for Registration – Free Weekly Workshops
February 20, 2021 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 10:30 am on Saturday, repeating until June 26, 2021
Hosted by The A.J. Williams-Myers African Roots Center, the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster Counties, the Bard Master of Arts in Teaching Program, and the Bard College Institute for Writing & Thinking (IWT)
Writing is an essential tool for self-expression, advocacy, and action – a tool that is not only confined to the classroom.
Girls Write Kingston offers girls and young women, ages 13 to 18 years old who live in the greater Kingston area, the opportunity to experiment, experience, and explore the writing process through a range of fun generative activities, in the company of a supportive learning community. Each participant will receive the small gift of a notebook and pen, personalized to celebrate this new program.
Saturday workshops are hosted by the African Roots Center in a virtual environment (using Zoom online or with the available dial-in option) beginning 10:30 am on Saturday, February 13 with 20 sessions running through June. Girls Write Kingston is limited to 15 participants.
The workshop will conclude with a celebratory community reading and launch of an online participant-directed publication.
