City of Kingston to co-host New Year’s Eve concert event at Old Dutch Church on December 31

The City of Kingston, in collaboration with Ars Choralis and Old Dutch Church, will co-host a special New Year’s Eve event on December 31, 6 p.m., at Old Dutch Church.
In addition to the concert event, Mariner’s Harbor is sponsoring a midnight ball drop in T.R. Gallo Park, which will be open to the public.
Forward Together, a classical chorale concert performance based on Langston Hughes’s poem, Let America Be America Again, is the culminating event of the 150th anniversary of the City of Kingston celebrations. The event is free, open to the public and appropriate for all ages.
Mayor Steve Noble said, “The theme of my State of the City speech back in early January of this year was ‘moving forward together.’ The speech referenced the 150th anniversary of the villages of Rondout, Wilbur and Kingston coming together to form the Kingston we know today. We know it was not easy creating a unified City back in 1872, and 15 decades later, it’s still a good reminder that when we focus on our common bonds — and not those that separate us — we are much stronger. As we look back on 2022 and look forward to the new year, this concert is a beautiful tribute to our past and the future we will build together.”
Kitt Potter, Director of the Department of Arts and Cultural Affairs said, “From our ‘Kingston Revealed’ art exhibition currently on display at City Hall, to this 150th-anniversary finale, it is inspiring to see so many individuals and groups from all backgrounds coming together to celebrate the treasure trove of cultures, and heritages inherent in our great City. We are so proud of this connection we feel towards one another and look forward to more unifying celebrations in the future.”
At the event, donations of warm clothing are being accepted to benefit the Family of Woodstock Darmstadt Shelter in Kingston. New or gently used warm coats, hats, gloves and socks for youth and adults will be greatly appreciated.
