Annual Wallkill River Summit

May 3 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Join the Wallkill Watershed Alliance for the eighth annual Wallkill River Summit.

Featured speakers will include:

• Karyn Hanson, from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), will share updates on DEC’s progress on developing a “Total Maximum Daily Load” (TMDL) for the Wallkill River and Sturgeon Pool.

• Kevin Sumner from Orange County Soil & Water Conservation District, who will discuss current agricultural conservation programs and projects underway in Orange County, including flood management and riparian corridor restoration.

• Stuart Findlay Ph.D, Aquatic Ecologist, Cary Institute for Ecosystem Studies, will share the results from the 2022 placement of a YSI Sensor, which measures algal pigments related to harmful algal blooms. The sensor was placed in Sturgeon Pool in summer 2022, successfully documented the bloom last summer, and will be deployed in the river again this year.

• Jillian Decker of the Wallkill River Watershed Alliance will share updates on the activities of the Alliance and ways to get involved in protecting and restoring your local river.

This year’s conference is supported by SLR Consulting, New Paltz Health and Nutrition, Open Space Institute (OSI), Olo, Inc, Bruderhof, Wet Tek, Ulster Savings Bank and Gadaleto’s Seafood Market & Eatery.
